From 6 to 14 July, the Polytechnic University of Tomar will host the Herit Aware Game 2026 International Summer School | Heritage Games. An international initiative forming part of the European HERIT-AWARE project, which brings together students, researchers, academics and professionals from different fields to reflect on the contemporary challenges of protecting, promoting and managing cultural and natural heritage.
The summer school organized by the Polytechnic of Tomar in collaboration with the European partners of the HERIT-AWARE consortium, promotes a multidisciplinary environment that brings together archaeology, history, geography, heritage conservation, education, social sciences, and new technologies.
Over the course of nine intensive days, participants will have the opportunity to take part in lectures, seminars, hands-on workshops, field visits, and collaborative activities focused on topics such as heritage resilience to natural and human-induced risks, the participation of local communities, heritage education, sustainability, integrated landscape management, and the use of artificial intelligence in the documentation, monitoring, and promotion of cultural heritage.

As part of the HERIT-AWARE Project, an OPEN DAY – HERIT-AWARE GAME will take place on 13 July 2026. This initiative is open to the academic community, public institutions, heritage professionals, secondary school teachers, students, and the general public.
Throughout the day, the IPT will host project presentations, technology demonstrations, exhibitions, discussion sessions, and opportunities to share experiences developed by the Summer School participants and the project's international partners. The OPEN DAY will provide a unique opportunity to explore the latest approaches to the research, protection, and promotion of cultural and natural heritage, including applications of artificial intelligence, digital technologies, heritage education, risk management, sustainable tourism, and the engagement of local communities.
