IPT recebe apresentação de livro sobre Movimentos Migratórios

The book "Identities and Cultural Diversity: Migration Movements" will be presented on 30 May at the Instituto Politécnico de Tomar (IPT).   The IPT President will guide the event organised by co-authors Síria Borges, Marleide Lins and Luiz Oosterbeek at the José Bayolo Pacheco de Amorim Auditorium, at the Tomar campus, from 4:30 pm.

Promoting individual reflection on the participation in the migration phenomenon, broadening the concept of migration and encouraging the discussion of associated problems are the main aims of this work divided into three parts.

"Migrations, Identity and Humanities" are the themes addressed in the first section consisting of four chapters - Migrations: an identity characteristic of humanity by Luiz Oosterbeek, Globalised Identities: the re-signification of migrating in the face of world fragmentation by Adriana Capuano, Crossings from Sub-Saharan Africa to Europe: resistance and feeling of not belonging by Marleide Lins and Mação, the secret capital of the world by Hugo Gomes, Carlos Rodriguez, Síria Borges, Virginia Lattao, Sara Garcês and Jedson Cerezer.

In turn, the second part of the work focuses on topics such as the relevance of archival institutions for research on indigenous migration and mobility in Piauí, the context of gypsy migration in Maranhão, refuge in relation to the Cuban immigration flow, the sense of belonging of Japanese women who migrated to Rio Grande do Sul in the mid-twentieth century and reports of foreign women, survivors of imprisonment, in the context of the covid-19 pandemic in Brazil. Entitled "Migrations, Ethnicity and Gender", this collection of chapters brings together research by Síria Borges, Deusdedit Carneiro, Tássia Távora, Alexandra Begueristain, André Soares and Natália Corazza.

The last chapter of the book analyses the influence of migrations on literature, dance and music based on the exhibitions by Luzia Marques, Feliciano Bezerra, Rute Lages and Algemira Mendes.

The launch session of "Identities and Cultural Diversity: Migration Movements" is open to the general public, will be attended by political representatives from Piauí and is expected to be a moment of personal and collective reflection.
