CEFT opens exhibition "Recent Works" by Luís Pavão
The third and last exhibition of 2023 part of the Third Round-up of exhibitions in Photography and Territory promoted by CEFT opens at Casa dos Cubos on 9 September, at 3.30 pm, with a programme by João Henriques.
In addition to the Digital Platform accessible at https://fotografiaeterritorio.ceft.pt/, this round-up is an initiative that complements it, both of which aim to disseminate photographic works on Portugal, favouring a broad spectrum of contemporary photographic production.
Two recent works by Luís Pavão, a renowned Portuguese photographer with a vast experience in the production of auteur photography, whose activity also has strong links to the conservation of photography, will be presented to the public. Both projects focus on extractive industries, one of them concerning marble quarries in the Estremoz-Borba-Vila Viçosa area. The images were captured through drone photography, which reveal the strong visual and land-use impact of stone exploitations.
The other series was made in the underground salt mines of the municipality of Loulé, an industry that has practically disappeared despite the existence of salt deposits, in tunnels with a total length of around 40 kilometres, a work in black and white, with artificial lighting, in a technical and formal approach that allows the textural complexity of the place to be exacerbated, at the same time showing a spectral and ghostly side, allegorising the abandonment and haunting of this place.
