Objectives
- Develop skills in reading comprehension and in written and oral expression;
- Produce texts using a variety of techniques and models;
- Recognize the importance of adapting ones speech to the communication situation;

1. Communication, Language, and Tongue:
1.1. Communicative structures;
1.2. Language, Tongue, Speech, and Discourse;
1.3. Spoken code, written code;
1.4. Linguistic variation;
1.5. Grammar in communication;
1.6. Semantics/relationships of meaning.
2. Text Types and Practices of Reading Comprehension and Written Expression:
2.1. Reading and analyzing various texts;
2.1.1. Functional texts;
2.1.2. Argumentative texts;
2.1.3. Explanatory-descriptive texts;
2.1.4. Expository-informative texts;
2.1.5. Textual cohesion and coherence;
3. Project Methodology:
3.1. Methodological, structural, and linguistic correction concepts for the preparation of a scientific paper;
3.2. Techniques for researching, recording, and processing information;
3.3. Abstracts, summaries, reports, press releases, thematic presentations, and briefings;
3.4. Compiling bibliographic references;
4. Oral Comprehension and Expression Practices:
4.1. Interviews;
4.2. Debates;
4.3. Oral presentations.
Evaluation Methodology
Continuous Assessment (requires attendance at two-thirds of the classes)
- Assignments completed throughout the course (20%);
- Attendance (55%, with a minimum grade of 8);
- Oral presentation (25%).
Periodic Assessment (working students or students covered by other legal statuses):
- Written exam administered at the end of the semester in the classroom: 70% (minimum passing grade of 9);
- Oral presentation (30%).
* Students who do not achieve a minimum grade of 9.5 in the items listed as components of continuous and periodic assessmentall of which are mandatorywill be admitted to the exam.
Exam Assessment (regular exam period and retake):
- Written exam (70%);
- Project with oral presentation (30%).
Special Exam Period and Retake Assessment:
- Written exam (100%)
