Objectives
A - Identify the main parties involved in a civil construction project: project owner, designer/project team, construction company, site manager, inspection team, safety coordinator.
B - Understand the organization of a construction contract in the civil construction field.
C - Distinguish the functions and responsibilities of the technical site management and inspection teams, and their respective interactions with other stakeholders.
D - Recognize the importance of site meetings as a tool for coordination, decision-making, recording, and quality control.
E - Know the basic principles of safety on a construction site.
F - Identify the main traditional/conventional building construction systems.
G - Interpret basic technical vocabulary in the civil construction field to facilitate interaction with other actors in the area.
H - Know the legislative framework related to architectural heritage.
I - Identify the main architectural characteristics of historical-construction periods.
J - Understand the criteria underlying interventions in built heritage. K – Identify the forms of alteration and degradation of stone in architectural heritage.
L – Characterize conservation and restoration work versus rehabilitation work.
M – Identify the differences in the application of conservation and restoration concepts in rehabilitation works and in a restoration work.
N – Identify the main challenges in conservation and restoration works.

1. Introduction;
2. The civil construction contract and the main stakeholders;
3. The site meeting;
4. Construction systems;
5. Safety on site;
6. Characterization of historical-construction periods;
7. Legal framework of cultural heritage and rehabilitation in Portugal;
8. Adaptation interventions in built heritage;
9. Walking Seminar.

Evaluation Methodology
Develop a group project, with 2 to 4 students, on the topics proposed at the beginning of the semester.
The project consists of 3 parts/modules corresponding to the statement proposed by each professor.
The project must be submitted in PDF format, with written and drawn pieces.
The presentation of the projects will take place on the last day of class and will last 4 minutes + 10 minutes of discussion.

Final Grade, CF
CF= 1/3xP1 + 1/3xP2 + 1/3xP3
