Objectives
To develop students’ competences in using project management tools; defining project activities and organizational tasks; estimating project investment and operating costs; and assessing the feasibility of investment projects from financial and economic perspectives.

The course unit also aims to develop knowledge and soft skills that will enable students to integrate management activities within the organizations in which they will work.

Program
1. Introduction to projects in Chemical Technology (CT). Basic principles of Economics and their effects on organizations. Concepts of organization and corporate structure and their relationship with the surrounding environment.

2. Market analysis techniques applied to CT. Demand potential for CT products or services. Accessibility to raw materials and production equipment suppliers. Criteria for the location of an industrial plant.

3. Principles of project design, planning and control. Production typologies. Project planning tools. Design of CT-based projects.

4. Project analysis perspectives. Technical assessment of projects. Concepts, indicators and methods for optimizing production effectiveness and efficiency. Methods for determining or estimating investment in CT. Elements required for the economic and financial analysis of projects. Estimation of production resource costs. Project evaluation and selection criteria.

Evaluation Methodology
In all assessment periods, the final grade is obtained through an investment project assessment in the field of Chemical Technology, carried out during the contact period (60%), and a written test (40%), with a minimum grade of 8 out of 20 in both components for approval. Students will be excluded from the final examination if they do not complete the investment project assessment during the contact period or if they fail to attend two thirds of the scheduled classes, which are considered mandatory under the Academic Regulations in force.

Any written or practical assessment, including individual or group assignments, may, whenever there are substantiated doubts regarding the authorship or authenticity of the submitted work, be subject to a complementary assessment, convened by the lecturer for the purpose of clarifying such doubts. Failure to attend this assessment, except for a duly justified reason, or failure to provide the clarification required to confirm the authorship or authenticity of the assessed material may result in a revision of the grade awarded, including the total or partial disregard of elements whose authorship or authenticity has not been demonstrated. The grade resulting from the complementary assessment shall prevail, in respect of the elements covered by it, for the purposes of the final grade.

Teaching Method
Theoretical-practical classes in which course contents are presented, examples related to the Chemical Technology industry are discussed, and application exercises are carried out. Part of the classes is dedicated to supporting the group project.
