Objectives
An introduction to the theory and
practice of DBMS. Emphasis will be on theoretical considerations about modelling data and designing easy-to-use
and effective DB systems:creation and modelling of databases, hands-on practice with SQL.
Program
1 - Objectives and functions of DBMS.
2 - Ancient data models. Relational model.
3 - Relationships. Data dictionary. Keys.Primary key, foreign key and indices. Integrity and rules.
4-Functional dependencies and normalization. First normal form
(1FN), second normal form (2FN), third normal form (3FN) and
Boyce-Codd normal form.
5-Entity-relationship method. Extended E-R.
6 - SQL.
Evaluation Methodology
Written Test. Laboratory coursework. Preparation and presentation of a Final Project.
