Objectives
The students will familiarise themselves with the major artistic trends, the materials and their properties as well as the main causes for decay. They should be able to prepare technical examinations and diagnoses and undertake conservation/restoration interventions.
Program
Introduction to carving - illustrative examples, key artists; materials and production techniques.
The main causes of change and decay. Particular ethical aspects.
Conservation and restoration treatment support and structure, surface layers
Preservation methods and techniques.
Evaluation Methodology
Continuous assessment: technical reports and mid-term written test.
Final assessment: written examination
