(1) Docente Responsável
(2) Docente que lecciona

Prerequisites
Not applicable

Objectives
The course aims to develop the skills required to define, design and performance analysis of process control systems.
After completing the course successfully, students should be able to define control strategies for chemical processes, to design these strategies and to analyze the performance of controllers, including the simulation of the behavior of these controllers.

Program
1. Functions, objectives and main control strategies. Control cycle.
2. Typical elements of control cycles: sensors, signal converters, actuators.
3. Feedback process control. Data acquisition and transmission. Control systems. Control variables and processes. Types of control and of controllers. Controllers design .
4. Case studies of control systems in chemical processes.
5.Simulation of process control.

Evaluation Methodology
Assessment in continuous evaluation is made through of a project computational task of design and simulation of a control system of chemical processes (30%), a final written test (30%) and a set of theoretical-pratical and computational tasks (70%). A minimum classification of 7 in any one of the three itens is required. In final evaluation periods, the assessment consists in a written and computational pratical test (70%) and in a project computational task (30%). A minimum final classification of 10 is required for approval in any evaluation period.

Teaching Method
During the lectures the main concepts are explained, demonstrating the application of these whenever possible. In practical classes are proposed the resolution by the students of exercises provided and some case studies are simulated using software.
