Objectives
Students should:
A. Improve a set of linguistic and sociocultural skills to apply in communicative situations within the scope of Communication.
B. Develop interpretation and text production skills using the language fluently according to its rules.

1.1.1. Types of newspapers – Broadsheets vs Tabloids – characteristics
1.1.2. Translation and retroversion of news
1.2. Television
1.2.1. Types of programs
1.2.2. Television personalities
1.2.3. Sociological analysis of television programs
2. Language used in different online and offline media
3. Analysis of communication documents: news, advertising and audiovisual
3.1. Comparison of news published by different media
3.2. Press releases
4. The events and personalities that marked the world
4.1. News coverage - analysis and comparison
4.2. British and American Cultures - impact/reflection on society and the media
5. The digital revolution in the media sphere
5.1. Social media
5.2. Changes and consequences
6. The role of advertising in society

Evaluation Methodology
* Continuous Assessment:
- Written test carried out at the end of the semester - 50%
- Practical work, oral participation in classes, worksheets and attendance - 20%
- Completion of 1 written research paper with oral presentation (mandatory at any assessment period) - 30%
Only students who attend 2/3 of the total number of classes taught will be admitted to continuous assessment. If they do not meet this requirement, they will automatically be admitted to the exam.
The final classification of the curricular unit results from the weighted average of the classifications obtained in the 3 evaluation components defined above.
Working students and students covered by other legal status:
- Written test - 70%
- Research assignment (written and oral) - 30%

* Assessment by Exam:
- Written exam - 70%
- Research work (written + oral) - 30%
This work only applies to those who did not complete it during the semester.

The student obtains approval in accordance with Points 11 and 12, of Article 11, of the IPT Academic Regulations.

Teaching Method
Student-centered communicative methodology, applied to the area of social communication, using authentic documents, developing communicative skills close to the professional context through reading, speaking and writing activities.
