Prerequisites

Objectives
1. Produce large-format analog and digital matrices: development of negatives via analog (large-format camera) and digital (acetate printing) methods, with density and contrast control.
2. Apply the Salted Paper photographic process: preparation of supports, emulsions, and execution of contact prints with control of technical variables.
3. Apply the Anthotype photographic process: preparation of supports, working solutions, and execution of contact prints with control of technical variables.
4. Apply the Cyanotype photographic process: production of images using ferric processes, including exposure and development control.
5. Apply the Cuprotype photographic process: preparation of chemical solutions, execution of proofs, and exploration of the visual characteristics of the process.
6. Understand the technical and chemical principles associated with historical photographic processes: analysis of the variables that influence the results (density, contrast, pH, support, and reagents).
Program
Part 1 Large Format Matrices
Production of negatives via analog and digital methods. Image preparation and processing using editing software.
Part 2 Salted Paper
Study of the salted paper printing process, including media preparation, emulsions, and exposure control.
Part 3 Anthotype
Study of the printing process in Anthotype, including media preparation, working solutions and exposure control.
Part 4 Cyanotype
Exploration of the process, including UV exposure control, washing, and tonal variation.
Part 5 Cuprotype
Preparation of chemical solutions, execution of tests, and analysis of contrast and density variations.
Part 6 Technical Fundamentals
Study of the variables that influence photographic results: density, contrast, pH, media quality, and reagent behavior.
Evaluation Methodology
Approval is conditional upon attendance in at least 2/3 of the contact hours. Failure to meet this requirement will result in failing the course unit, without prejudice to situations provided for by law.
Assessment by Attendance (continuous assessment):
Practical exercises (4) 65%
Written test 25%
Attendance/participation 10%
To pass the course, the student must:
Submit all assessment components; Obtain a minimum grade of 8/20 points in each assessment component. Failure to obtain the minimum grade in any component will result in failure, and the student will not be eligible for subsequent assessment periods.
Passing is also conditional upon obtaining a minimum final grade of 9.5/20 points, resulting from the weighted average of the assessment components.
Assessment during entrance exam, resit, special, and final year periods:
Students who obtain a final grade of 8 points or higher in the attendance assessment may access subsequent assessment periods for the purpose of passing or improving their grade. In these cases, the assessment is carried out through an individual oral exam, focusing on all the theoretical content taught. The final grade for the course unit will be calculated as follows:
50% grade in the attendance assessment
50% grade in the oral exam
