Lecturer
Prerequisites
Prior knowledge of Chemical Thermodynamics I
Objectives
In-depth study of Chemical Thermodynamics. Introduction to Statistical Thermodynamics. Students should be able to apply the principles of thermodynamics to solid, liquid and gaseous systems with interest for Chemical Engineering.
Program
1.Real solutions. Excess functions. Liquid-liquid equilibrium and
immiscibility in liquid phase. Theories of solutions; 2.Liquid-vapour equilibrium. 3. Ternary systems; 4. Statistical thermodynamics. Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution. Perfect monoatomic gas. Diatomic and
polyatomic gases. The third law of thermodynamics; 5. Solids. Heat capacity. The Einstein model.
