Objectives
Promote understanding of the concept of positive / negative and copy by contact or extension. Understand the characteristics of industrially manufactured photographic emulsions; Train the student to use the Photography Laboratory, known as Black and White, from the development and processing of negative emulsions, to their positivization by contact or enlargement.

Program
The evident photographic process: sensitive material, exposure to light, alteration and following procedures; Identification and study of the determining factors in the degree of alteration of the sensitive material;
The latent photographic process: sensitive material, exposure control, development and procedures following development; identification and study of the determining factors in the degree of final darkening and the minimum time for maximum darkening; Notion of positive and negative; Contact printing;
The negative panchromatic emulsions: luminous sensitivity and chromatic sensitivity; Disclosure and procedures following disclosure;
Positioning by projection and magnification. The Magnifier; The “photographic paper” and its characteristics; Disclosure and procedures following disclosure; Control of density and contrast;
The Photography Laboratory: equipment, utensils and products, rules for use and care.

Evaluation Methodology
The assessment of learning will be done continuously. Theoretical-practical knowledge will be evaluated through the presentation, defense and discussion of the experimental projects proposed throughout the semester, and developed by small groups. Each student must submit individual reports for each experimental project. Group work will represent 40% of the final assessment, and individual work will represent 60% of that assessment.
In Exams, in addition to the written test, with a weight of 40%, students must present individual reports related to practical work done in class, which will represent 60% of the final grade of that Exam.

Teaching Method
The program will be essentially practical and based on “learning by doing”. Experimental projects will be proposed that will be developed by small groups. An individual report will be requested for each experimental project.
