Objectives
- Know the aspects of the packaging market,
- Know and adopt the appropriate methodologies for packaging design.
- Know the types of standard packaging
- Know the industrial packaging production systems.
- Know the materials and their properties (paper, cardboard, corrugated board) and accessories.
- Associate with the various technical criteria a critical view regarding the issues of
sustainability and ergonomics.
- Master the Design and 3D modules of the ArtiosCad software.
- Develop conceptual and operational skills for the execution of packaging and objects
promotional items.

Program
1. Packaging and design
1.1 Packaging definitions, types of packaging and packaging functions.
1.2 Marketing aspects. Packaging as a semiotic object. Brand, product and
consumer.
2. Methodology for packaging design.
2.1 Structural design
2.2 Graphic design on the packaging.
2.2.1 Image (photography and illustration).
2.2.2 Color, typography, composition.
2.2.3 Symbology and Barcode.
3. Labels.
3.1 Types: Cold glue, hot glue, Self-adhesive, No label look, Sleeve, In Mold Labeling.
3.2 Materials and techniques.
4. Packaging design and sustainability.
4.1 Sustainability, European legislation (94/62 / EC as amended by Dir.2004 / 12 / EC, Packaging and
Packaging waste) and certifications.
4.2 Method for packaging design considering the parameters of sustainability.
5. Packaging and technology
5.1 ArtiosCad software.
5.2 Standard packaging, flexible and semi-rigid packaging.
5.3 3D promotional objects.
5.4 Printing methods applied to the packaging.
5.5 Terminology.
5.6 Materials: paper and cardboard for packaging.
5.7 Manufacture of paper bags.
5.8 Production processes. Production systems and equipment.
5.9 Technical tests: packaging paper and cardboard.

Evaluation Methodology
Continuous asses.: 30% written test and 70% projects. Classification is weighted average of all grades.
Examination asses.: attend. at 2/3 of the classes and min. of 10/20 on projects. Written assessment only theor. Rating min. 10 val., Weight T/P.

Teaching Method
Presentation of theoretical contents and analysis of the different packaging. Field trip. Execution of packaging design projects from the briefing phase to the final prototype using different materials.
