Objectives
a) Know the main methods of examination and analysis used in the study of cultural heritage
b) Develop skills that enable the students to correctly use and interpret the information provided by these methods
c) Promote multidisciplinarity in the study and conservation of cultural heritage

Program
1. The electromagnetic radiation and its interaction with matter; 2. Examination methods making use of visible radiation; 3. Colour description and characterisation; 4. Radiography; 5. UV and IR photography; 6. Multi and hyperspectral imaging; 7. Optical microscopy; 8. Electronic microscopy; 9. Classical methods of chemical analysis; 10. X-ray fluorescence spectrometry; 11. Infrared spectrsocopy; 12. Raman spectroscopy 13. X-Ray diffraction; 14. Mass spectrometry; 15. Gas chromatography.

Evaluation Methodology
Evaluation with two components: practical component evaluated through reports and works related to the PL classes (40%) and theoretical component evaluated through mini-tests in class or written exam (60%). Each component must have a minimum of 10 mark points. Examination is not required for those who, during the semester, have an average of 10 or more marks points in both components and those who do not have 10 marks points in the practical component are excluded from examination.

Teaching Method
Lectures on the principles, possibilities, limitations and results provided by the methods. Practical classes in which some methods are used and the results obtained by some of the other methods are interpreted and discussed.
