Objectives
On completion of this module the students should be familiar with healthcare terminology, be able to identify purchasing procedures and techniques as applied to healthcare and acknowledge the advantages of electronic purchasing platforms.

Purchasing as a strategic advantage. Effectiveness indicators for purchasing.
Purchasing centralisation in healthcare.
ABC analysis - Pareto curve as applied to purchasing management.
The Kraljic matrix.
Demand forecasting methods.
Legal and political framework for healthcare purchasing.
Electronic purchasing and e-procurement.
Evaluation Methodology
Formative tests.
Written essay on a theme selected by the lecturer.
Written test.
Final exam for those students who didn't achieve the minimum standards for continuous assessment.
