Objectives
Basic training in continuum mechanics through the introduction of the theoretical basic concepts for the understanding of the balance of elastic solids, with emphasis to current Civil Engineering applications.
Program
1-Introduction. Fundamental concepts, geometry of the masses; 2-Introduction to tensor calculus; operations with tensors; 3-point stresses and strains 4-state of deformation; 5-constitutive relations. Generalized Hooke's law, particular cases of stress and strain.
Evaluation Methodology
Weighted average of all the submitted assignments (5%) and a written test (intermediate test or exam) (95%)
