Archeology, and Underwater Heritage Conservation Laboratory

Connect with us on Facebook - LACPS

Established in 2012 for the development of research and the execution of archaeological work and conservation of underwater heritage. In this sense, it is proposed to develop studies, research, and interventions, both in the context of academic research and in the provision of services, including archaeological surveys; management and heritage education projects; surveys, monitoring, and archaeological excavation interventions; laboratory studies and conservation, in this case, of materials from wet environments; in situ conservation studies of underwater structures or wet environments; terrestrial and underwater technical and scientific consultancy. Its action strategy includes a high level of proximity to the regional population, developing research and assisting society in civic awareness directed towards the preservation of heritage and value creation.

It is based in the municipality of Alvaiázere, serving as a hub and convergence point for research and study work in the areas of Archaeology and the Conservation of National Underwater Heritage.

In the field of Archaeology, it embraces all types of work and proposals in the realm of knowledge, data management, and conversion for society, whether terrestrial or underwater.

As a link, it has relationships with other institutions, where it develops work partnerships, in networks, defined by protocols or collaborations, supporting the pedagogical component of classes for courses associated with the area and research.

It integrates a strong aspect in the creation of scientific value, direct research in the office, laboratory, and field, in the study of new methodologies and technological application, and social awareness processes for the safeguarding of cultural heritage, maintaining, in these cases, a close relationship with associations.

In the pedagogical support component, the laboratory is open to the circulation of national and international students and the integration of internships, offering, in the latter case, logistical support conditions to displaced students (accommodation with necessary conditions within the laboratory itself) so that they can temporarily develop their research projects or academic research. The reception of interns is open to all institutions that collaborate in partnership with LABACPS-IPT, national or international, in the area of scientific and technological development.
