Archeology, and Underwater Heritage Conservation Laboratory

Context

The Laboratory of Archaeology and Conservation of Underwater Heritage presents itself for the development of research and provision of services in the field of terrestrial and underwater archaeological heritage.

In this regard, it presupposes competencies in the areas of ARCHAEOLOGY and CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION, the latter mainly associated with materials from wet environments and aquatic environments.

It serves the different projects of teaching, research, and service provision, ensuring the necessary skills and expertise for the execution of each challenge.

It is multidisciplinary and cross-cutting.

Based on:

  1. The existence of different courses in Archaeology.
  2. The applicability phase of new technologies to heritage and their fruitful development within cross-cutting sciences, particularly in underwater applications.
  3. The factor of ensuring the quality of work and research and service provision.
  4. The need to give absolute priority to research, a fundamental support of a public higher education institution.
  5. The advantages that Laboratories enjoy in accessing public and private funding to support research, development, and safeguarding of heritage.
  6. The need to coordinate projects and provide services in the field of Terrestrial and Underwater Archaeology and Preservation of Submerged Sites and Artifacts.
  7. The need to establish a new dynamic in the realization of research projects and development, whether public or private.
  8. The need to create a support structure for new research or project development by teachers or students enrolled in our courses.
