Usage and privacy policy of the Mobile APP of the Instituto Politécnico de Tomar
1. Ownership
The Mobile APP application is property of the IPT-Instituto Politécnico de Tomar and its schools: ESGT - Escola Superior de Gestão de Tomar, ESTA - Escola superior de Tecnologia de Abrantes and ESTT - Escola Superior de Tecnologia de Tomar. The main aims of the institute are to offer training and research services as well as external technical and consultancy services in compliance with its internal regulations and applicable HE legislation.
IPT provides internet users with this application for mobile phones and other devices, not only to facilitate the dissemination of IPT activities and services among the wider community, but also to provide students, faculty and staff with a number of services aiming to bring the polytechnic closer to the academic community.
Access and/or use of the MyIPT application is totally voluntary. From the very moment of access any user fully accepts the contents of this Usage Policy, as well as those that can somewhat complement, replace or modify it in terms of the services and contents of the application. Therefore, users should carefully read these documents before accessing and using any service within the application under their full responsibility.
In any case, the IPT reserves the right at any time and without prior notice, to modify or delete the contents, structure, design, services, access and/or use conditions of this Web site, whenever they deem appropriate.
2. Public and private uses.
Geolocation of all IPT’s units. Study centres, buildings and individuals in the IPT who have enabled the geolocation service.
Phone numbers and contact emails of the units, study centres, departments, services and offices within the IPT.
Search for people within the IPT
Access for students, users and former students of the IPT to a personal area including information such as Course Units - Information on course units in which the user is enrolled, timetables, Keynotes history - Course units notes, Tuition Fees - see tuition fee plan and ATM references, News - IPT-related news feeds, social media - IPT’s social media, Notification Centre - List of all the notifications received, Conversations - Messages between teachers and students through the E-learning platform, Announcements - Announcements by instructors, Events - Events published by instructors, or other academic events, Room search - Room search, Access to their location on maps of the campus and building plants, consultation of all Menus, My data - Consultation of personal data both of the private and public profile Settings - Access settings and configurations of the application to access class timetables, information on enrolled courses and others.
3. Personal data processing.
3.1. Username and password for access to the personal area.
Access to certain contents of the application is through a username and a password. IPT reserves the right to accept or reject any request for registration. In either case, a registered user undertakes to:
a. Provide true, complete and accurate information on their identity. Otherwise IPT reserves the right to delete the account, being exempt from any liability.
b. Not to replace and/or impersonating any person. Otherwise the IPT reserves the right to delete the account, being exempt from any liability.
c. Keep the password safe and confidential.
d. No to share, reveal or transfer the password to another person.
The IPT reserves the right to cancel the registration of all users who do not comply with any of the obligations contained in this Legal Notice.
3.2. Messaging service
This service enables to forward messages to global or sector distribution lists according to criteria related to units, centres, campus, studies and the choice of theme categories.
4. Other Features
4.1. Geolocation
The application includes features for the location of buildings, offices and staff within the IPT that have enabled the geolocation service. Users accept to use this service solely for the legitimate, adequate purposes as provided in these rules as well as those provided by geolocation software providers in their respective websites.
4.2. Phone call The application allows you to dial phone numbers directly from the IPT directory.
4.3. The application and IPT’s website may use cookies regulated by privacy policy and terms of use contained in the IPT website.
5. Obligations towards third-parties
5.1 The application is available from distributors. Processing of personal data, cookies policies or other procedures are regulated by privacy policies and terms of use of the distributors themselves: Apple Store, Google Play.

6. Intellectual property
The entire application, i.e. its constituent elements (texts, images, brands, logos, audio files, software files, colour combinations) and the content structure, selection and order of its content are protected by intellectual and industrial property regulations and cannot be the subject of exploration, reproduction, distribution, modification, public dissemination, transfer or transformation or any other form of dissemination not explicitly permitted.
Access to the application does not give the user the right or ownership of any intellectual and/or industrial property rights related to content.
The IPT reserves the possibility of exercising the legal actions that may apply against the infringer of the intellectual and/or industrial property rights.
7. Disclaimer
Users will be responsible for ensuring that the software is compatible with their device being responsible for any damage that the software, including its installation, may cause to the device. It is the users’ responsibility to obtain the appropriate devices and the lines of communication for the purposes specified here as well as to accept the consumption of the data network, with the costs associated with them being at their own expense. It is the users’ sole responsibility to check the software appliances, their ability to meet their needs and compatibility with their own system prior to download.
The IPT reserves the right to modify, partially or totally, the present terms and conditions, as well as include new ones. The new terms and conditions will be made available to the user through the application. Furthermore, the IPT reserves the right to update, modify or eliminate the information in the application and limit or prevent access to content without prior notice.
The IPT reserves the right to eliminate, limit or prevent access to the application specially when technical difficulties arise for facts or circumstances beyond their control which are deemed to reduce or eliminate the standard security levels adopted for the proper operation of the application.
In no case whatsoever will the IPT be held liable for any loss or damages of any kind arising from accessing and using the application, including but not limited to, those caused by the presence of viruses and/or computer attacks. The IPT will also not be held liable for any damage caused by inappropriate use of the application and, in no case whatsoever by failures, interruptions, absence or defect in communications.
8. Personal data protection
In order to obtain the services, it is necessary to complete all the personal data requested and authorise its inclusion in files or its posterior processing.
Those data are included in automated or mixed files owned by Instituto Politécnico de Tomar, Estrada da Serra – Quinta do Contador which will be mentioned in the data collection form and treated confidentially by the IPT.
The user will respond in any case to the accuracy of the data provided, with the IPT reserving the right to cancel registered services of any user who has provided false or inaccurate data without prejudice to other actions that may have legal implications.
All registered date will be treated confidentially and registered users will be able to exercise their rights of access, correction, opposition and deletion of personal data provided through a written notice addressed to the IPT’s IT director or via e-cis@ipt.pt.
9. Cookies Policy

The application as well as the IPT Web page(s) use cookies. Cookies are small text files generated by the Web pages you visit, which contain session data that may be useful later on. 10. Service deactivation
To deactivate the service, you just have to uninstall the application.
