Objectives
A. Identify and understand the conceptual and methodological issues underlying film programming and curation and its historical evolution;
B. Distinguish between programming contexts (festivals, museums, cinematheques, etc.);
C. Understand the relationship between film curation and other arts.
D. Organize a cycle/show dedicated to documentary cinema, around contemporary themes linked to documentary.
E. Understand the relationship between Programming and Curation in Documentary Film and the various SDGs, in particular: industry, innovation and infrastructure (9 ODS); reducing inequalities (10 ODS); action against global climate change (13 ODS).

Program
1. Cinema and reception: sociocultural circuit; economic circuit; audience formation.
2. Film programming: regular exhibition and cinematographic events: commercial circuit, alternative circuit, festivals and cycles/shows (10 ODS: reducing inequalities)
3. Paths of a film: premiere, distribution circuits and affirmation circuits.
4. Definition of the orientation of a schedule: criteria and schedule lines (9 ODS: industry, innovation and infrastructure; 13 ODS: action against global climate change).
5. Texts and documentation: collection and selection of documentary elements; writing about/from films, criticism and contextual presentation; catalogs and editing.
6. Programming logistics: planning and scheduling; copy and media management; exhibition legal issues and copyright; marketing and promotion.

Evaluation Methodology
1. Continuous assessment
1.1 Regular intervention on the contents discussed in class (10%).
1.2 A written work on a topic proposed by the Professor (50%)
1.3 Elaboration of a theoretical-practical work on Programming and Curation in Documentary Film (40%)

2. Exam-based assessment
2.1 The same individual written work will be requested as in the context of continuous assessment (50%) and a supplementary exercise proposed for the exam situation (50%).


The evaluation is made in accordance with the provisions of Art. 11 of the Academic Regulation of IPT Schools. Students who obtain a grade equal to or greater than 10 values are waived from the Exam.

1. Theoretical classes, of an expository nature, using the viewing and analysis of films.
2. Analysis of film programs at festivals, cinematheques, museums, etc.
3. Practical-laboratory classes for the production of a documentary film cicle.
