The Polytechnic University of Tomar (UPTomar) and the Portuguese Association of Engineers (OE) signed a new Cooperation Agreement on 12 September, reinforcing their partnership in the fields of education and training, professional recognition, employability, and the development of Engineering.
The agreement was signed at the Engineering Regiment No. 1 in Tancos, within the framework of the Santarém District Meeting of the OE, in the presence of Fernando de Almeida Santos, President of the OE, António Carias de Sousa, President of the Southern Region Executive Board, and João Freitas Coroado, Rector of the Polytechnic University of Tomar.
Among the objectives of the partnership is the promotion of quality and relevance in Engineering education through collaboration on matters related to programme curricula, as well as the organisation of joint training activities, research projects, seminars and other knowledge-sharing initiatives. The agreement also envisages a range of activities aimed at bringing students closer to the professional environment.
In this context, the “Dia da OEng na UPTomar” is planned, an annual initiative that will bring the Portuguese Association of Engineers and its representatives to the Polytechnic University of Tomar, fostering interaction between students and engineering professionals. An Open Day at the OE is also planned.
The two institutions will furthermore cooperate in the development and monitoring of the Engineering Observatory, an initiative designed to engage higher education institutions in reflecting on the evolution of the engineering profession, its competencies, and the sector's needs.
For the Polytechnic University of Tomar, this agreement reinforces the importance of higher education that is increasingly aligned with professional practice and societal needs, promoting a strong connection between knowledge, innovation, qualifications and employability.
