The Internal Quality Assurance System (SIGQ) of Instituto Politécnico de Tomar (IPT) is certified by the Agência de Avaliação e Acreditação do Ensino Superior [Agency for Higher Education Assessment and Accreditation] (A3ES)  

The preliminary report presented by the Comissão de Avaliação Externa (CAE) highlights some strong points: the "clear involvement of the IPT Community, in particular, of the top management bodies in the QMS certification", the "clear description of processes and responsibilities through a concise Quality Handbook" and the "recognition of the organisational culture, particularly in terms of service streamlining and administrative modernisation, by the IPT Community".
 It is also worth mentioning the positive reference made by the CAE regarding the campus characteristics and the proximity between students and teaching staff.

To support its decision, the Committee also listed a set of good practices in force at the IPT.  Notably, the certification of the Management System for Reconciling Professional, Family and Personal Life, the creation of a pool of Internal Auditors and the creation of rules and criteria for equating tuition hours in the regulations on teaching service provision, which governs the number of teaching hours, providing for a "pool of hours" that may be converted into sabbatical leave or the reduction of teaching hours as a stimulus for R&D activity. 

From the IPT’s perspective, the achievement of this institutional goal translates the commitment of the academic community to the sustainability of the institute and makes it possible to monitor the performance of the various dimensions inherent to the mission of a higher education institution.
