IPT delivers awards of the 16th edition of the National Poliempreende contest and passes on the torch to Madeira

 

Last Friday 8th November, the Doutor José Bayolo Amorim Pacheco auditorium hosted the winning teams and representatives of more than two dozen polytechnics in the country for the awards of the 16th edition of the Poliempreende Contest.

Poliempreende is a contest promoted by polytechnics, non-integrated schools and schools within universities. The aim of Poliempreende is to instil and encourage entrepreneurship and provide career opportunities, preferably self-employment.

The first prize worth €10,000 was delivered to Instituto Politécnico do Porto (IPP) with the BullyBan project, a tool designed to minimize the problems associated with bullying. The team of the Instituto Politécnico de Leiria (IPL) received €5,000 for the second prize to implement the CBmeter, a project in the health sector. The third check to the amount of €3,000 was received by the Instituto Politécnico da Guarda (IPG) with its Hydroponic Farm Evolution project, a business idea in the agricultural sector.

In this edition, the sponsors of the first, second and third prizes were Banco Santander, Softinsa and the Ordem dos Contabilistas Certificados, respectively.

Innovation and Internationalization Awards to the amount of €2,500 and €1,500 sponsored by Delta Cafés were given to the business ideas of the Instituto Politécnico de Santarém and the Universitat de les Illes Balears, respectively. The first in the field of Human Resources and the second in Tourism.

The 16th edition of the Poliempreende contest took place between 9 and 13 September on the campus of the Instituto Politécnico de Tomar, the host of this year’s edition. Portuguese and foreign teachers and students had the opportunity to know about innovative assets in the region and presented their pioneering business ideas.

The awards ceremony culminated in the delivery of the contest banner by the president of the IPT, João Freitas Coroado, to João Prudente, vice-chancellor of the University of Madeira which will be the organiser and host of the 17th edition.
