CityHack 2019

The Instituto Politécnico de Tomar, with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, announce the 3rd edition of the project CityHack - the city as a social platform.
Complexo da Levada in Tomar, 11-12 May 2019, free registration until April 27.

CityHack is an event in the form of a technological marathon which takes place on 11 and 12 May, with a duration of 24 hours, which aims to develop technological solutions for cities and improve the quality of life. The 2019 edition is dedicated to finding solutions to challenges with social impact, such as active ageing, inclusion of refugees and migrants, the welfare of children, youngsters and people with special needs, as well as sustained transformation of the labour market. In addition to encouraging participants to present technological solutions for improving the quality of life in cities recognizing, valuing and retaining talent, CitiHack is also intended to create conditions to put the ideas generated into practice. Supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation as part of the Hack for Good project and the Gulbenkian’s program “Cohesion and Social Inclusion”, this year the event presents the novelty of not using plastic. During these two days, obsolete technological equipment will be collected in partnership with a certified company. All activities related to CityHack 2019 are conducted in accordance with the 17 UN’s sustainable development objectives. Teams comprised of 3-5 higher education students can apply, provided that at least two of them are from technological areas. The team can include two individuals who are not pursuing higher studies.

The winning teams will receive cash prizes totalling € 3500 and various awards offered by some of the sponsors of this edition. First prize - Hack for Good - is two thousand euros and is sponsored by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. This year’s edition also has the support of technological partners of IPT, namely SoftINSA, Compta and Critical Software.

The two previous sessions were attended by more than 150 participants (divided into 36 teams) from 21 education institutions.
