In December 2017, the General Assembly of the United Nations declared 2019 as the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements.  The United Nations recognise the importance of global awareness of Chemistry as promoting sustainable development and as providing solutions for global challenges in energy, education, agriculture or health.  

This international year will bring together various partners including UNESCO and scientific, educational and other societies to promote and celebrate the importance of the periodic table and its social applications.  

The Escola Superior de Tecnologia de Tomar (ESTT) of the Instituto Politécnico de Tomar, with a history of over 30 years of higher educational offer in the field of chemical technology, has decided to join the International Year (IYPT2019) by challenging secondary school students and teachers through the activity: Chemical Challenges in 2019  DesQ2019
This activity is intended for secondary school students. Registration at www.desq.ipt.pt.

Challenges are launched on the site on a weekly basis on pre-defined dates and can address any chemistry related area.   

The participants should solve the challenges and answer online on a specific area at: www.desq.ipt.pt.

The participants will be divided in groups from the same school with 2 to 4 elements that can be supervised by a teacher. There is unlimited participation of students by class, teacher or school.  

Assessment and grading of answers will take into consideration its correctness and answer time.
