This series of sessions has been the meeting point in Portugal of all those who consider typography as crucial.  Every year it takes place in a different Portuguese higher education institution.  

The 9th Series of Typography Sessions (9ET) will be held at the Instituto Politécnico de Tomar – www.9et.ipt.pt  – and is a joint organisation of the BSc programme in Design and Graphic Arts Technology and the MSc in Editorial Design.  
The sessions will take place 16-17 November and there will be workshops on the 15th.  

Main speakers are: Seb Lester, Veronika Burian (TypeTogether), Miguel Sousa (Adobe Fonts), R2 Design, Atelier d’Alves e Vera Tavares (Ed. Tinta da China).
The 9ET theme is “thinking about tomorrow”.  It focuses on the attitude shared by all those who directly or indirectly work with typography (designers, researchers, faculty and students) - work thinking of the future at all times.

Documentary “In the Moment” as part of the 9ET, there will also be a screening at the Cine-Teatro Paraíso in Tomar at 9:30 pm on 15th November of the documentary “Right Now - Vítor da Silva and newspaper press design”, which was awarded at the Avanca Film Festival 2018. The documentary portrays the difficulties of the making of newspaper design in Portugal.  It includes interviews to Vítor da Silva, Fernando Coelho and Luis Ribeiro that remind us and show many of the titles designed for them that make the history of the press in Portugal (Diário de Lisboa, Expresso, Diário de Notícias, Semanário, Comércio do Porto, and others). Entry is free of charge.

Exhibition "Typography, Identity, Theatricality”.  9ET, on 16 November at 6:30 pm IPT Gallery launches the exhibition "Typography, Identity, Theatricality” by Jorge dos Reis who has a background in typography and extensive experience in exhibitions. His work is somewhere between the typographer and the artist. The documentary gives an overview of his career trajectory from the design of fonts for the Teatro Municipal Joaquim Benite - Companhia Teatral de Almada, to hand-drafted sketches, type tests and its final application to communication products.  This is a unique opportunity to get familiar with the process of creating and designing fonts.
